Legendary University of Georgia football announcer Larry Munson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on September 28, 1922. He worked a number of different broadcasting jobs before coming south to Nashville, Tennessee in 1952. He began broadcasting for the University of Georgia in 1966. Munson was the radio voice of the Bulldogs for all or part of 43 seasons. He also did work for the Georgia basketball team, plus the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons. But he was famous for his exciting calls in some of Georgia’s greatest football games. Munson died at his home in Athens, Georgia on November 20, 2011. Soon afterwards a memorial service was held for him in Sanford Stadium, attending by thousands of UGA fans.
