“Gene Talmadge Deplores Death,” April 13, 1945

(The following is article appeared on p. 14 of the April 13, 1945 issue of the Atlanta Constitution.)

Gene Talmadge Deplores Death

Eugene Talmadge, formerly governor, last night deplored the death of Pres. Roosevelt and said:

“I have known him personally for 20 years. I regret his death very much. I feel sure that congress and President Truman will carry on the war to the best interests of America.”

[Note: While Governor Talmadge had known President Roosevelt for 20 years, they were bitter political enemies; this likely explains the brevity of Talmadge’s remarks.]
