Disdain for Political Parties

John Girardeau Legare of Darien, Georgia recorded some election results, expressing disdain for both political parties:

“…At the general elections held yesterday, the Republican party has swept the country. Too much Democratic foolery. The term Democrat now seems to be synonymous with fool and the term Republican has been for some time synonymous with scoundrel. … “
