Civil War Soldier Wrote Letter, Unaware Battle had Begun

Unaware that the battle had already begun, a Georgia soldier in Longstreet’s corps who was still in Atlanta, wrote to his wife anticipating battle.

“…we have bin on the road 9 days. an I am almost in the notion to run away and come home now I am so close but I think I had better not. We will not stay hear but a day or two an then I think we will go on to Tennessee where we will have a big battle I expect. I fear it will be one of the hardest we have ever had. …”
