Heat and Rain on Independence Day

Reuben King noted it was Independence Day in his journal, but seemed more concerned with the weather:

“…was the d[ay] of independence We Started early in the morning for Darien went to Mr. Copleands I was very much over come with the heat when I got thare I rested my Self an hour or so and we Started and came down to Barrington we stoped thare a short time and then started for home we was over taken by a Shower and got wet…”
