Diary Entry on Civil War Soldier Home on Furlough
Julia Johnson Fisher wrote in her diary of a family member coming home briefly on a furlough, and their thought that the war would be decided in the campaign near Richmond.
“We were surprised today by the arrival of Fred from Florida. The regiment have a furlough of a few days and then “on to Richmond” is the word. It is thought that the crisis is near, that there the event must be decided.”
