Anonymous Letter Directed at Oglethorpe
William Stephens wrote a rumored letter supposedly left for James Oglethorpe, expressing the concerns of the Malcontents - the group of colonists opposed to the Trustees’ policies in colonial Georgia:
“…Much Talk about Town of an anonymous & Letter said to be found in the Street, supposed to be dropped with Design, and diredled to the General; full of such Politicks as were now in Fashion among us: But I could not readily find a Way to come at a Sight of it, nor to know in whose Hands it was got….”
