December 21, 1857

Mitchell County Created

Gov. Joseph E. Brown signed an act creating Mitchell County as Georgia’s 123rd county. Created from portions of Baker County, the new county was named for Gen. Henry Mitchell, who commanded Georgia troops after the American Revolution.
