Charley Trippi Born

Future University of Georgia football great Charley Trippi was born in Pittston, PA. Trippi would star for UGA for two years in the early 1940s, before serving in the Air Force for two years in World War II, then returning to finish his career at Georgia. In 1946 he won the Maxwell Award as the best collegiate football player in the nation. He also had a very successful professional career, and is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall of Fame.
