December 10, 1858

Quitman County Created

Gov. Joseph E. Brown signed an act creating Quitman County. Quitman County, Georgia’s 128th, was created fromm portions of Randolph and Steward counties and named for Gen. John Quitman, who fought in the Mexican War and later was governor of Mississippi.
