Explosion Killed 12 in Villa Rica

On the morning of December 5, at approximately 11:03 a.m. a massive explosion destroyed four buildings and damaged several others in the heart of downtown Villa Rica, Georgia, killing 12 persons and seriously injuring 20 others. In terms of injury and loss of life, this remains the most catastrophic event in the history of Villa Rica and Carroll County. The response to the disaster came from many quarters. Fire, police, civil defense, Army National Guard and Georgia State Patrolmen, from four surrounding counties converged on the scene, along with two fire companies from the City of Atlanta.
