Schrenko Indicted

Former State School Superintendent Linda Schrenko was indicted by a federal grand jury on eighteen counts of criminal acts, including conspiracy to convert more than $600,000 in federal funds to personal use (primarily for her failed gubernatorial campaign in 2002), theft, and wire fraud. In February 2005, she was re-indicted on 47 federal counts. Facing 35 years in prison, she pled guilty in 2006 and was sentenced to eight years in federal prison (with no chance for parole) and fined over $500,000.
