Republicans Won Major Elections over Legacies

Republicans won two highly contested races in the 2014 general election. Incumbent Nathan Deal was re-elected to his second term as governor, defeating state senator Jason Carter - grandson of former President Jimmy Carter. In the race to replace departing U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, David Perdue - cousin of former governor Sonny Perdue - defeated Michelle Nunn, daughter of long-time senator Sam Nunn.
