Sit-In at Rich’s

Rich’s, located in downtown Atlanta, was the city’s largest and most popular popular department store. It was always a treat to have lunch in the store’s famous Magnolia Room - if you were white. On this day, Martin Luther King Jr. and dozens of other protesters tried to reverse the restaurant’s segregated policy and were arrested in a sit-down demonstration after being refused service. King and 14 others arrested refused bond.
