Ty Cobb’s Hit Record Tied

Georgia’s Ty Cobb played for the Detroit Tigers from 1905 through 1928. During those 24 seasons, he had 4,191 hits - a record that would stand until Cincinnati Red Pete Rose tied Cobb’s record on this day. Rose went on to establish a MLB record of 4, 256 career hits. Cobb, who died in 1961, was not around to see Rose tie and break his record.
