“Georgia” Designated State Song

Gov. Thomas Hardwick signed a joint resolution of the General Assembly designating “Georgia” as the official state song of Georgia. “Georgia” consisted of a poem by Robert Loveman set to music by Lottie Belle Wylie. This work continued as Georgia’s official state song until Gov. George Busbee signed a joint resolution designating “Georgia on My Mind” as the new state song on April 24, 1979.
