August 11, 1938

FDR Spoke at UGA

President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered the commencement address for the summer graduation exercises in Sanford Stadium at the University of Georgia. At the ceremony, UGA president Harmon Caldwell presented FDR with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. After his speech, FDR left for Barnesville, Georgia, where he would deliver an important political speech.
