Oglethorpe Moved to Investigate Prisons

Haslemere’s member of Parliament, James Edward Oglethorpe, introduced a motion in the House of Commons to investigate the conditions of England’s prisons. The motion passed and Oglethorpe was named chairman of a committee to investigate “the State of the Gaols of this Kingdom.”
