Harry Rossoll Died

Atlanta artist/illustrator Harry Rossoll died at age 89. Rossoll, who worked as an illustrator for the U.S. Forest Service from 1937-1971, is best remembered for conceiving the idea and image of Smokey Bear in 1944 as part of a new forest fire prevention promotion. During the following decades, Rossoll also was responsible for over 1,000 Smokey Bear messages.
