Catharine “Caty” Greene Born

Catharine “Caty” Greene was born in Rhode Island; she was the wife of Revolutionary War hero Nathanael Greene. They moved to Georgia after the war, where Caty hired Eli Whitney to tutor her children. While in Georgia, he invented the cotton gin. Greene eventually moved to Cumberland Island, where she died and is buried.
