February 05, 1777

Constitution of 1777 Adopted

Meeting in Savannah, delegates to a constitutional convention adopted the Constitution of 1777 – Georgia’s first official state constitution. [Although some historians consider the Rules and Regulations adopted by Georgia’s Provincial Congress on April 15, 1776 as Georgia’s first constitution, that document was adopted before Georgia proclaimed its statehood on July 4, 1776.]
