Soldier Shot in Hand
A private in Georgia’s 23rd Regiment from Coffee County was shot in the hand on this day; he would survive and eventually be promoted to 2nd Lieutenant.
Daniel, Reuben P.- private August 31, 1861. Shot in hand December 29,1861. Elected Jr. 2d Lieutenant April 1863. Appears on roll dated April 30, 1864 with following remarks; “Deserted February 29, 1864. Obtained leave of absence for 20 days commencing February 8,1864, and has written back from his home in Union County, Ga. of his intention to stay.” (Born in Habersham County, Ga. in 1833.)
