Army of the Potomac Withdrew from Fredericksburg, Set Up Winter Camp

The Army of the Potomac completed its withdrawal back across the pontoon bridges erected just a few days earlier. They climbed the heights on their side of the river, looked back at the heights opposite that they had tried six times to take at a terrible cost, then proceeded a short distance further, where the exhausted men set up camp for the winter.
