Richmond Newspaper on General Conscription and Ringgold Gap
The Richmond Times Dispatch printed an item on there being a general conscription in Georgia of every able bodied male over the age of fifteen for defense of the state.
A General Conscription in Georgia. –The Senate of Georgia has unanimously passed resolutions providing that every able-bodied citizen of the State over fifteen years of age shaft be immediately enrolled, ordered under arms, organized, and ordered into active service, for the defence of the State, at such points and for such length of time as the Governor may direct. Nothing is said about “over sixty,” so every strong man in Georgia not already in the service may go to work and brush up his arms. The House has not passed the bill.
