Alabama Newspaper Defended Alexander Stephens
Confederate elections were scheduled for the following week (the executives had been chosen by the Confederate Congress, this election was for the voters to confirm them). Apparently a newspaper in Virginia had doubts about Vice-President and Georgian Alexander Stephens. The Southern Recorder of Milledgeville reprinted a vigorous defense of Stephens from an Alabama newspaper.
