Lee Asked for Prisoners to be Moved South

General Robert E. Lee wrote to the Confederate Secretary of War, asking that Union prisoners of war be transferred to a place further south, where supplies would be more readily available. This, and the order to halt prisoner of war exchanges the previous day, were beginning steps toward the establishment of a prisoner of war camp near Andersonville, Georgia.
