Confederate Treaty with Cherokee Indians

The Confederate government signed a treaty with the Cherokee Indians. Stand Watie, a Cherokee who had been born in Georgia, would lead a group called the Cherokee Regiment of Mounted Rifles for the South during the war; he would eventually be the final Confederate general to surrender in 1865.
