Battle of Corinth Began

The Battle of Corinth, MS began; leading the Union forces was General William Rosecrans, who would lead more Union forces in the first major battle fought on Georgia soil, in September of 1863. After some initial Confederate success, the Union forces regrouped and held their lines; the battle would resume the following day.
