Milledgeville Newspapers on Battle of Antietam
The Confederate Union of Milledgeville acknowledged the Battle of Antietam (Sharpsburg) was terrible, but claimed victory for the Confederates. Then, in editorial, they warned the Southern people and government not to become complacent.
The Southern Recorder printed a letter from their correspondent with Lee’s army; it briefly described the fighting, then gave a long, yet incomplete list of Georgians killed in the battle.
