Hardee Reassigned to Georgia’s Coast

Confederate President Jefferson Davis approved the request of General John Bell Hood to relieve native Georgian General William J. Hardee of duty with his army. Hardee, who did not get along well with Hood, accepted an assignment to command the troops along Georgia’s Atlantic coast - where he would encounter Sherman’s army again in December.
