Athens Newspaper Wanted New Governor
The previous week, the Southern Watchman of Athens had editorialized on elections to the Confederate Congress, on this day they opined on who should be Georgia governor. While they did not endorse any particular candidate, they did insist it should be a “new man” to replace Joseph E. Brown, who was completing his second term. Brown would eventually decide to run for another term, and be elected again.
