Writ of Habeas Corpus Suspended in Atlanta

By order of the Confederate Secretary of War, the writ of habeas corpus was suspended within Atlanta and any area within five miles of its city limits. This meant suspected traitors/saboteurs could be arrested and imprisoned without probable cause. This had already occurred in the North.
