McClellan Officially Nominated
In Chicago, the Democratic Party officially nominated George B. McClellan for President, to oppose Abraham Lincoln. They had opposed each other before, but not politically. McClellan was commander of the Union Army of the Potomac for most of the first two years of the Civil War, and had frequent disagreements with Lincoln over war strategy, before being relieved of command in 1862.
