This Day in Georgia Civil War History

August 18, 1861

Blind Tom Wrote “Battle of Manassas”

While there is not a specific date for this, a Georgian who would become quite famous - Blind Tom Wiggins - composed a piano piece in celebration of the victory in the first major battle of the Civil War. The piece was entitled “Battle of Manassas.” What is perhaps most amazing about this is not only was Wiggins blind, but he was only twelve years old when he composed this music.
