Proclamation on Dealing with Deserters
The Southern Federal Union of Milledgeville printed two items which showed that some men were not doing the their duty, as military officers perceived it. The first was a proclamation from Georgia Governor Joseph E. Brown with instructions on locating and dealing with deserters; the second was a reprint from a Virginia newspaper on the antics of those trying to avoid service altogether.
