Part of Wall Washed Away at Andersonville
At Camp Sumter - Andersonville prison - part of the west wall near the prison creek washed away during a storm, causing fear of massive escapes. Guards were ordered to man the gap to prevent the now nearly 33,000 inmates from escaping, and telegraphs were sent to Richmond asking that no more prisoners be sent.
