Proposal to Relieve Overcrowding at Andersonville

A Confederate official notified U.S. authorities that the South would unilaterally release a number of prisoners of war from Camp Sumter - Andersonville prison - if the U.S. would provide transportation to take them home; two months would pass before the U. S. Government responded to this proposal.
