Battle of Cedar Mountain
The Battle of Cedar Mountain (Battle of Slaughter Mountain) took place in Virginia. After some early success, the Union army attempting to capture the railroad center of Gordonsville, was pushed back by a Confederate counterattack. This shifted the scene of the action from the peninsula to northern Virginia. The Lawton-Gordon-Evans Georgia Brigade was involved in the battle.
