Georgia Chose Smith to Organize Defense from Raids
The Richmond Times Dispatch reported, with approval, on the man chosen to help Georgia defend itself from Yankee raids.
The right man in the right place. –The Governor of Georgia has procured the services of General Gustaves W. Smith, late of the Confederate army, to assist him and General Wayne in fortifying several very important points in that State against the raids of the enemy. General Smith is said to be one of the best engineer officers in the Southern Confederacy, has had more than twenty years experience in military affairs.
