Editorial Looked Back Two Years, Blamed U.S. for War
The Southern Recorder of Milledgeville printed an editorial, which reprinted one they had done in 1861 - on how to prevent war between the United States and Confederate States. In the previous piece they acknowledge the Confederate States are based on slavery, while accusing the United States government of wanting to abolish it. The editors believed if the U.S. had simply accepted the separation, peace between the two was possible. But in their refusal to do so, the U.S. - again in the editors’ opinion - was responsible for the war.
