Birth at Andersonville
A local newspaper - the Sumter Republican - reported an amazing story from Camp Sumter - Andersonville prison. A baby had been born within the stockade to Mrs. H. Hunt, the wife of a prisoner, who, dressed as a man, remained with her husband through his confinement and her childbirth; Mrs. Hunt and the child were now boarding with a local family.
