Confederate Hospital Established at Andersonville

At Camp Sumter - Andersonville prison - the Chief Surgeon established Camp Sumter Confederate Hospital to treat sick Southern troops on post, many of whom were dying from the same diseases as the prisoners - gangrene, scurvy, smallpox, and the biggest killer due in part to coarsely ground cornmeal - dysentery.
