Atlanta Newspaper Defamed Northern Military Leaders

The Southern Confederacy of Atlanta reprinted an article from a Charleston newspaper detailing some of the Northern military leaders, questioning their character, while referring to President Abraham Lincoln as a “vulgar ignoramus.” Not listed among the leaders - yet - was the man who would become infamous in Georgia - William T. Sherman.

To combat these “ruffian hordes,” the newspaper also published a call for the formation of a Georgia Legion to be called the Fulton Dragoons.
