Register of Dead Ordered at Andersonville

At Camp Sumter - Andersonville prison - the Chief Surgeon appointed a Union prisoner of war named Dorance Atwater, of the Second New York Cavalry, to keep a register of the name, regiment, burial place, date and cause of death of each inmate who died at Camp Sumter, a document later known as the Atwater Death List.
