Battler of Winchester Concluded
The Battle of Winchester, Virginia concluded. The Union troops attempting to escape (see June 14) were outflanked by a Confederate division who had completed a night time march to cut them off. Close to 2500 Union troops were taken prisoner, and the Shenandoah Valley was cleared of Union forces, clearing the way for a Southern invasion of the North through Maryland and into Pennsylvania.
