Union Forces Marched on Marietta; Atlanta Campaign
Union forces that had fought in the battles at New Hope Church, Pickett’s Mill, and Dallas marched eastward toward Marietta to reach the Western & Atlantic Railroad, which served as their main supply line from Chattanooga. Rainy weather, along with the need to recover from the intense battles, had caused the Atlanta Campaign to bog down. Although there would not be a major battle until later in June, there were daily skirmishes - sometimes with substantial causalities.
