The Southern Recorder of Milledgeville printed a letter from Union General William T. Sherman, outlining how he thought the inhabitants of Southern states should be treated. The entire leader can be read at the preceding link; following is the newspaper’s editorial response to it. As it turned out, the establishment of a “paper” government should have been the least of their worries.
