Lincoln Rescinded Hunter Order Freeing Slaves

President Abraham Lincoln rescinded David Hunter’s order (issued on May 9) freeing the slaves in Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina. Lincoln was sympathetic, but was concerned such actions might prompt border to states to join the rebellion. See the texts of both orders here.
