Harper’s Weekly Exhibited Mistaken Thinking from Both Sides
This week’s edition of Harper’s Weekly exhibited two mistakes made during the Civil War era - one from each side. An editorial entitled “The King is Dead” showed the Southern mistake of believing “King Cotton” would lead to foreign intervention in the war. In a separate editorial the war was referred to as a “waning rebellion” - a significant mistake in Northern thinking, as the war would continue for another three bloody years.
