Battle of Big Black River Bridge

The Battle of Big Black River Bridge - part of the Vicksburg campaign - took place in Mississippi. In a last ditch attempt to keep the land passage to and from Vicksburg open, the Confederates made a futile stand, losing some 1800 prisoners, and equally important leaving the remainder of their army bottled up in Vicksburg with no means of escape.
